“When I make art, my soul sings. Through my work, I share with others the joy I find in the simplicity of a flower, the quiet of a long country road, the nostalgia of an old bicycle left behind, as well as the appreciation I have of people working, or playing, or taking care of everyday tasks. Life is what we do, and that is what I wish to capture and preserve.” -Susie Burch
A self portrait doesn't always look like the person painting it when viewed by someone else, but most often, it is a reflection of the internal person the artists thinks of as him, or herself. In reality, I am a vibrant, “mature” lady, but I think of myself as a curious, intellectual, sassy, self-assured Southern woman who has been fortunate enough to live "La Dolce Vita!"
I am grateful for the opportunity to have traveled on photographic expeditions to Panama and Costa Rica, Alaska, Mexico, Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, Italy, France, Great Britain, Japan, across the continental USA, and other exciting locales to capture images of new, and exciting, places to use as material for my paintings.
Atlanta, Georgia, has been home for most of my life, and now I divide my time between the city and the Batesville community of Clarkesville, Georgia, in the magnificent north Georgia mountains. I have had the honor of studying watercolor painting with Jill Saur, Tony Couch, Frank Broadherst, Charles Reid, and oil painting in the style of the old masters with Chris di Domizio. Each of these well known artists has shared their special painting secrets with me, which I incorporate into my own style of painting.
